Vegan shoes!
Ok, want to know a secret? I still own leather shoes. OMG VEGAN FAIL! I’d like to get some decent, affordable, vegan shoes.
I’m checking out these cool ones from Journey’s, but then I hit the problem I always have with shoes, vinyl. Ok, so leather is evil because it’s the skin of a dead animal. Vinyl is evil too though! Umbra at Grist has tackled this issue before. I also have trouble finding shoes that fit (not all shoe lines go up to size 10 women’s). Add to this the fact that I will only buy shoes that are comfortable and good for your feet (no high heels for me!) and my selection is limited. Oh yea, and I don’t want to spend too much. Picky, aren’t I?
Since moving to the Atlanta area I have been LOVING this store called Abbadabbas that specializes in shoes that are good for your feet. The staff their know what the word vegan means as well. What materials do you look for in shoes if you don’t want leather or vinyl? I want them to be long lasting, so something with the same toughness of leather, without the bad karma, would be ideal. How do you buy vegan shoes? Is vinyl more evil than leather? If you buy shoes online, any tips for finding a good fit?
One thing I do with my shoes is I wear them until they wear out. I tend not to follow trends, especially with shoes. Buying something that i know I will wear until it is completely unusable means I won’t want to throw it away just because the season changes.
I want to know your thoughts for buying shoes that won’t kill the planet, your feet, your budget, or the animals!
